A whole era of games of overlooked games that would make great remakes

For those of you who have been around gaming as long as me might remember the Commodore 64 which came out three years before the Nintendo NES. I believe I heard Tarragon was there with me and surely remembers some of the great games of that time. Some of these would make fantastic remakes. Some of my favorites were:

<a href=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Zov6Ir76DI>Heart of Africa
<a href=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=57qE1arvo3U>Seven Cities of Gold - although I forgot how politically incorrect this one could be
<a href=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJLFDNG2uhs>Skate or Die
<a href=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zDwjctkF5w>Epyx Summer Games
<a href=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1UvQGENO14>Archon
<a href=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Kk9UfFEYvM>Defender of the Crown

And even:

<a href=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ltsqeUbPuEM>Elite - This one is a lot like Elite Dangerous, but on Commodore 64

Anyone remember these or have other favorites?

Wow, I never played on a Commodore 64 but I do remember playing Skate or Die on the NES. Lots of fun there! Haven’t played the others though.

I could see Defender of the Crown or Elite get a remake. They remind me a lot of early internet browser games I use to play. Free games ftw!

Thinking about what I would want remade and I am kinda sad now, one of my favorites I use to play all the time (around 1999), StarDart appears to be offline. Was a great space-based, competitive rts. Matches varied from 4 hours up to a week. Take planets (thousands available) Build a fleet, make your way to Old Earth, battle others over prime planets, find ancient star ships called StarDarts in nebulae. Really simple but really fun.

Defender of the Crown did get a remake years ago IIRC.

Skimming through the list of games on Wikipedia, these ones stand out (and are far too numerous to link):

Creatures and Creatures II: Torture Trouble
Mayhem in Monsterland
Hacker
The Last Ninja and its sequels
The Monty’s (WanteD: Monty Mole, Monty on the Run, Auf Wiedersehen Monty)
Barbarian: The Ultimate Warrior
The Bard’s Tale
Beach Head
Bruce Lee
Zorro
Ultima IV
Finders Keepers
Cauldron II: The Pumpkin Strikes Back
Pirates!
Mercenary
Dark Side
Delta
Forbidden Forest
Game Over
Ghosts 'n Goblins
The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy
Maniac Mansion
Zak McKraken and the Alien Mindbenders
Infiltrator
International Karate +
Impossible Mission
Myth: History in the Making
Nemesis: The Warlock
Neuromancer
The New Zealand Story
Rod Land
Spy vs. Spy
The Sentinel
Street Rod
Turrican and Turrican II
Space Rogue
Speedball
The Trap Door
Thing on a Spring
Wizardy
Wizball

I know many of those are not exclusive to the C64, but that’s where I played them.

Whether or not any of these deserve a remake, well, that’s something for later discussion.
